Brief Introduction

Zhongshan Institute for Drug Discovery (ZIDD), is a comprehensive research institution for drug discovery established in Zhongshan, one city located in heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). ZIDD was launched by the City of Zhongshan in 2018, aiming to integrate the superior resources and intellectual capital of both GBA and the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica.

In line with frontiers in life sciences and aiming at solving key scientific problems in drug discovery, ZIDD carries out both basic and applied studies and seeks to develop a comprehensive research institution for drug discovery. ZIDD's mission is to build up "Five Ones" , i.e. "one" institute for drug discovery, "one" school of pharmacy, "one" public technology platform for industrialization service, "one" biopharmaceutical industry incubator, as well as "one" industrial venture capital fund. Research priorities are given to treat major diseases, such as cancer, neuropsychiatric disease, metabolic disease, and autoimmune disease, as well as the development of modern Traditional Chinese Medicine.

At present, a total of 12,000 square meters of new drug R&D centers and public technology platforms have been established and put into use as a transition campus . The ZIDD headquarter with a total area of 600,000 square meters is now under construction, and the main building project has already been completed. In the near future, ZIDD will form a scientific research group with unique advantages, composed of around 1,000 researchers from 100 innovation teams with unique advantages, build up a first-class comprehensive research institution for innovation in drug discovery, and make breakthroughs in theoretical innovation and key technology development for new drug discovery, leading the technological development of the biopharmaceutical industry.
