  • Biography

    Dr. Zhenghui Kang received his B.S. in chemistry from Anhui Normal University (2013) and Ph.D. in organic chemistry from East China Normal University under the guidance of Professor Wenhao Hu (2018). Then, Kang became a postdoctoral fellow at Sun Yat-sen University with Professor Xinfang Xu and Wenhao Hu during 2018-2022. In 2022 Dr. Kang joined Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Zhongshan Institute for Drug Discovery as associate professor.

  • Research Directions

    1. Medicinal Chemistry: Hit generation and lead optimization based on the new synthetic method. Design and synthesis of "medicinal lead compounds" with both biological activity and medicinal properties for clinical needs such as tumors and metabolic diseases.

    2. Organic Chemistry: Development of useful new synthetic reactions and asymmetric catalysis strategy for rapidly construction of structurally diversified compounds with potential medicinal skeleton.

  • Achievements

    Development of a series of novel multi-component reactions (MCRs) via trapping of transient intermediates that derived from metal carbenoid with various electrophiles. realized the excellent stereocontrol of the reactions by discovery of the new asymmetric synergistic catalysis strategy. The efficient synthetic approach was employed for the rapid and efficient construction of chiral polyfunctional molecules, which can be used to build the library of new compounds for drug discovery. He has published over 20 research papers in international journals, including Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nature Communications, CCS Chem., Org. Lett., Chem. Commun. The research proposals have got funded by Natural science foundation of China (NSCF), including “National Natural Science Foundation of China”, “Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, China” and “The First-Rate China Postdoctoral Science Foundation”.
